Samantha Perdue Award

Each year at the Cullman County Volleyball Tournament, a special award is presented to honor a remarkable young woman who left an enduring mark on the sport and in the lives of those around her—the Samantha Perdue Award.

Samantha Perdue’s journey in volleyball began as a setter for Cold Springs High School, where she graduated with pride and passion for the game. After graduating from college, she returned to Cold Springs to share her love for volleyball as a coach under Varsity Coach Linda Henderson. Later, Samantha continued coaching as the Junior Varsity coach at Good Hope High School, where she worked alongside Varsity Coach Rosemary Brown.

Samantha’s time at Good Hope was marked by both triumph and trial. During that season, she received the devastating diagnosis of cancer, yet her resolve never wavered. Under her leadership, the Junior Varsity team went on to win the County Championship. Even while undergoing treatments, Samantha showed up for every practice and game, encouraging her players with a smile and giving her all to the sport she loved. Shortly after that season’s county tournament, she passed away, but the example she set continues to inspire all who knew her.

Coach Rosemary Brown described Samantha as “a leader, dedicated, passionate, a great friend, motivator, and encourager. The kids wanted to play for her, and she always got the best out of them.”

After her passing, the volleyball coaches of Cullman County decided it would be a fitting tribute to Samantha to honor a young woman each year who demonstrated those same characteristics of excellence, character, and leadership. Out of that decision, the Samantha Perdue Award was created. Each year, the award is presented to a senior volleyball player during the county tournament in recognition of excellence in academics, strength of character, leadership, and dedication to the sport of volleyball.

This year, the award was presented to Campbell Koch of Good Hope High School, who exemplifies the qualities that Samantha lived out both on and off the court.

Through this annual recognition, Samantha’s legacy continues to inspire players, coaches, and fans alike—reminding us all that true excellence goes far beyond the scoreboard.
